Paula & Mike have been running The Boatshed for many years since it started in their house in Quay Street as a surfers lodge.
It is a bunk barn style, one dorm hostel nestled in the Old Town of Scarborough. Once a working warehouse for the fishing industry it had been derelict for many years before its recent renovation.
Our mission was to provide affordable accommodation with style. We think we’ve achieved this, recently receiving a Booking.com guest review award scoring an average of 9.5 for guest feedback
When Paula was a kid, the warehouse that now houses the Boatshed was used as a workshop for a ships carpenter. When she was 9 he made her a pair of stilts, and a year later when he retired, he had a party for all the kids on the street that knew him. The buttresses that held up the outer wall were the ‘Quay Street Kids’ climbing frame, and the alley between the two was the rat run and hiding place. More latterly the warehouse has been used for storing trawl nets. But throughout this time the place has been pretty much derelict.
We moved when we sold the house to todays hostel, having completely refurbished to top floor into a custom made hostel.
